E-JOURNAL
For this Community Service course, we have the opportunity to engage in social actions and chance to help out people who needs care. It is our young generation duty to improve the needs of people who need them. Throughout the whole process, I have learned that the foremost lesson I gain from this activity is that we need to have the initiative and to really care about the people in order to design and do something for them.
Among our classmates, we are divided into four groups which includes located at two sites (PPOC and Kompleks Penyayang Bakti). For our group, we decided to work on the outdoor area part of Kompleks Penyayang Bakti.

This is the activities progress throughout our journey.

21 September 2016
Miss Noorseah brief us on outdoor session for Kompleks Penyayang Bakti. She show us some site photos and discuss on the area that we are going to work on. We are going to clean and tidy up the site and enhance the look of the outdoor gazebo. We discussed our ideas with Mr. Max and start to generate some ideas for our site. Miss Noorseah also asked Mr. Jeffrey to  guide us on some skills for video editing in our activity group presentation.

19 October 2016
After researching and finding reference pictures, all group members present ideas in presentation slides form during lecture. After discussing with Miss Noorseah and Mr. Max, we decided to do an outdoor furniture seating and flower bottle pot at our site.

Mr. Max bring few representative from the indoor group and outdoor group (Tay Yii Min, Susanti, Soh Wei Xin) for site visit at Kompleks Penyayang Bakti. We went to the site at around 11am in the morning and reach there around 12pm. As the person in charge was not there on that day, Miss Anizah help to brief and discuss with us on our ideas. She give us some feedback on our ideas and after that we headed to our site. We went to the outdoor area first and start to take measurements and photos of the site in order to calculate the amount of materials needed and to decide on the area to place the furniture. We also followed to the interior area at Kompleks Penyayang Bakti together with the interior group to take measurements and photos of site. It took around 2 hours for the site visit and we went back to campus after that.

We discuss our ideas among group members and start to list down the materials that we need to source for this project. We also calculate on our budget and try to minimize the cost to buy materials and we decided to use recycle bottles for the bottle pot. Among 10 group members, we start to collect around 7 recycle bottles (1.5 litres) for each person.

28 October 2016
We started to go source for materials at around Kepong area from different hardware shops and bought ropes, 4 different colors of spray paints for recycle bottles, 2 pieces of joint wood to stabilize the bottle pot while hanging and nails to secure the ropes after hanging. We decided to buy soft pastel color spray paint as it brings a cheerful but soothing tone to the environment.

We asked around for hardware shops which sells ventilation blocks and manage to buy it at Lysen Hardware store. We also manage to buy sand and cement which are needed as a mixture to stick the ventilation blocks and 2 piece of wood planks for the seating for the outdoor furniture at the same hardware store.

29 October 2016
We start to do the bottle part in our campus. Firstly, we clean all the recycled bottles and wipe it before doing marking and drill holes for rope hanging. This is to ensure all the bottles are align when we hang it and we also mark the size of the portion to be cut off for plantation. We separate ourselves to teams to make things done faster. There are part of members who are in charge of marking and drilling and some others helps in cutting the portion and after that spray the bottles with different colors. I help marking and cutting some bottles and also helped to spray few bottles. Each bottle of spray are divided to spray 15 recycled bottle. After letting the bottles to dry, we started to tie knots at the bottles according to the color arrangement as discussed. We measure the length and estimate the rope length needed for each row and start hanging our bottles aligned on the rope.

30 October 2016
On this day, we went to Kompleks Penyayang Bakti and start on our installation at the site. We started cleaning up the site once we reach there at around 9.30am by trimming unwanted grass at site. After arranging the bottles according to sequence, we started putting soils and plants in the bottles. We add some coffee grounds to the soil which helps in the plant growth. While some people work on filling the bottle pots, one of our group member, Susanti starts to hammer nails on the wood structure of the gazebo roof. Few group members and I did the cement and sand mixture for enable the ventilation block to stick together. We arrange the position of our furniture before placing the ventilation block in position. We also lacquer the wood planks and wood joint to protect from outdoor weather.
After filling up the bottles with soil and plants, we hang and secure the ropes on the wood joints and structure. We make sure all the ropes are tied properly and well-secured in order to prevent any unwanted injuries to happen in the future.

Throughout this activity, I feel grateful that I have the chance to help the community in needs. Even though it is a short period of time, I learned that we should instill moral and ethics value in ourselves by lending our helping hands willingly and gain as much experience from this activity. I feel proud to be able to complete this installation together with group members and design something for the community.

DESIGN PROJECT (HYBRID CAFE): EAT ME ALIVE!!!!

SEMESTER 3 INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECT is here~

A work of 14 weeks has finally come to an end. Been through stressful moments and sleepless night but I am glad that everything comes out good in the end, at least I am happy enough with the outcome :D

This project is about a hybrid cafe with a service.

CAFE NAME: EAT ME ALIVE!
ADDITIONAL SERVICE: BODY AND HAND PAINTING
LOGO:

Why is it EAT ME ALIVE!? This is a cafe which serves organic food fresh and raw. Imagine the fresh vegetables and fruits asking you to savour them ALIVE! Main idea is to reinterpret ORGANIC in a new perspec of view. ORGANIC does not have to be only GREEN at all times, it is something raw, rough and crude, which leads to an idea of using crude materials as design base.
